Cachorrito: ¿Somos nosotros europeos?

Superpapa explained what the Brexit was to the girls. Understanding that it is a historical moment, it just made sense to make the little ones part of it.

Cachorrito: What is the Brexit?

Mum: The Brexit is the decision of the UK people to leave the European Union.

Cachorrito: Why do they want to leave the European Union?

Mum: Because they don't want to be Europeans anymore.

Cachorrito: Are we European?

Mum: Yes, we are European.

Cachorrito: If we are European, why don't they want to be European?

Telling this story to a friend from Wales, there was a tear in his eye and he asked me to please explain it to him too, if I found the answer to my daughter's question.

Pinzas y pompones / Pins and pom-poms

A fun, easy to set-up and non-dirt activity.

It is as easy as emptying a bag of pompoms in a bowl and to pick them with the pins!

I gave them milk lids to group the pom-poms in them.

Estuvieron muy entretenidas un buen rato.

The had fun for a while!

This post participates in Menuda Inspidación #10

After sewing this and this test dresses, I sewed Pirañita's school uniform.

For the non-British, in our Borough all the schools use uniform, no matter if they are state or private funded. There are a variety of options: Trousers, skirt, dress, for the winter, and Summer dress for the warmer months (one of my daughters finishes school on July 19th and the other one on the 22nd (yes, I meant July, no mistake there).

In our case, the Summer dress mus be green checked and ca be bought in any retailer. And I think they are all ugly! It might be cultural but they look exactly like the Spanish servants gowns. These are some examples of what you can buy in a random retailer.

Not liking the retailers' options was the perfect excuse to sew the perfect dress for the occasion and to have a dress that would be unique. (Did I ever tell you that I hate school uniforms?)

In the beginning I did the neck like in this one but it looked awful. So I cut it, added an elastic and used the bias that I had cut for the ribbon.

Puse algunas citas aquí y allá.

I added some ribbons here and there.

También una de handmade en la espalda.

I also added a handmade one on the back.

I really like the look of the sleeves with the ribbon and the buttons and the way they pull the fabric.

Circle Naii Pockets but with bias.

I was worried about the school's reaction, in case they would tell me that the dress was not appropriate for the uniform. That is why I didn't go wild with some ideas that I had in mind.

The first day that the little one wore it to school an older girls told her that it was not a uniform dress. However, her teacher encouraged me to open a uniforms store because she loved it. I will attach to the second opinion for it is the one that matters in the end. ;)

Y la peque va encantada, por supuesto.

And the little one loves it, of course!

Portavelas / Candle holder

I wanted to have something aromatic in the toilet but I don´t like most of the products for this purpose. After having a look at different options, I chose some candles. And, given that we like crafts, my girls made the candle holders.

Para hacerlo necesitarás:
- Un bote de cristal
- Arroz
- Colorante alimentario
- Lazo

To make them you need:

- Mason jar
- Rice
- Food coloring
- Ribbon

Mix the food coloring with the rice. In our case, my girls chose what to mix and the colors are quite intense.

Once the rice is dry, we can put it in the jar. If we do it too early, it will stick together and dirt the inside of the jar.

Then we make a ribbon around the bottle as a final detail.

Put the candle inside and it is ready to use in the toilet.

My daughters go to swim class and they received some swim hats when they started. The little one has never used hers. I had a fabric one that I like better. However, the older one had to endure the plastic one, which we both hate.

One of my daughter's swimming clothes were too little and I promised to reuse it for a swim hat.

He incumplido mi promesa. No había suficiente tela.

I failed my promise. There was not enough fabric.

However, I had brought home some fabrics that I had left in my brother's storage and I really like the result.

Fabric from Telas el Pozo (Madrid), ribbon from a pound store and the pattern of the swim hat by Naii

Imprimir, cortar, montar...

Print, cut, build... While they were having their bath and dinner I made it all.

¡Y mi niña tan contenta!

And my girl is so happy now!

The truth that we should keep in mind as mothers

Hoy he leído What They Don't Tell You as a Working Mom, de Sallie Krawcheck, y me ha encantado.

Today I have read What They Don't Tell You as a Working Mom, by Sallie Krawcheck, and I have really liked it. I really encourage you to read it.

Some weeks ago I went to my husband and told him something that I had been thinking about: "We have 15 years left".

It is more or less the time we have left until our parenting role is over. Our daughters will be adults and will have their own life, even if they still live with us. They might depend on us from an economic perspective but it will be done. We will start the phase in which the parents are there when they are required but let their kids fly because that is the way of life (and kick the chick out of the nest if need be).

Then, a new period of our life will start at all levels.

I have know women who couldn't deal with this change and have even been depressed as a result. The kids leave and, as they were the entire World to their mums, those women feel disoriented and don't know what to do next.

I tell my husband that we should keep this truth in mind.

Nowadays, raising the kids takes a 25% of the parents' life. In most cases, the period before and after those intense family years is longer.

This should be lived with peace and happiness. In some years we will still be young and have a lot of time in our hands to do what we are passionate about.

It is also a reminder to intensely enjoy these years, which we will remember with nostalgia in the future. We must be sincere with ourselves and think what is the legacy that we want to leave to our children and treasure in our hearts.

We still have exciting years ahead to raise our kids: Primary, teens, first years of adult life... And a lifetime to keep setting an example and be a reference for our children.

I will read this post again when I am 50 and I hope to be able to say that I got there as a happy and serene mother, having enjoyed each moment already lived to the fullest.

We are and always will be mothers but that is not all that we are. Isn't it beautiful to be a woman?

Frases celebres: Lecciones vitales / Famous quotes: Life lessons

Pirañita: ¡No!

Mamá: ¿Por qué?

Pirañita: Porque no quiero.

Mum: If you would have a problem, would you tell me?

Pirañita: What kind of problem?

Mum: Any problem. If you have fought with a friend, for example.

Pirañita: NO!

Mum: Why?

Pirañita: Because I don't want to.

---

Cachorrito: Mum, I want to buy the Darth Vader sword. It is very useful. And it comes it a bag. It is very practical.

Mum: Practical for what?

Cachorrito: For going in the underground.

Mum: But you already have the Star Wars sword from your birthday.

Cachorrito: Yes. But this one is red.

My husband says that she was right on the last one.

---

Mamá: Porque él no quiere ponérsela.

Pirañita: ¿Por qué no quiere ponérsela?

Mum: Our friends have given us a lot of clothes from their daughter for you to use.

Pirañita: The ones from G are for me and the ones from B are for Cachorrito.

Mum: I don't expect to have anything from B because he uses the same size as Cachorrito.

Pirañita: Why are they giving us clothes that could fit B?

Mum: Because he doesn't want to wear them.

Pirañita: Why doesn't he want to wear them?

Mum: Because he thinks that they are for girls.

Pirañita: Why does he think that they are for girls?

Mum: Because they have hearts, flowers and other things that he thinks that are for girls.

Pirañita: Why does he think that those things are for girls?

Mum: Because someone told him that they are.

Pirañita: Why did someone tell him that?

Mum: Because that person thought that it was the case. What do you think?

Pirañita: I think that they are not for boys or girls. They are for both.

---

Cachorrito: Is this a komodo dragon?

Mum: No, it is a Tarasca.

Cachorrito: Is a Tarasca a komodo dragon with wings and hair.

Mum: Mmmmm... Let's say yes.

Tarasca of Toledo

---

Mamá: No voy a volver a comprar huevos sorpresa.

Mum: I won't buy this kinder eggs anymore.

Pirañita: Why?

Mum: Because they used to be both for boys and girls alike but now they are trying to make some for boys and some for girls.

Pirañita: Why are some for boys and some for girls?

Mum: Because they think that some toys are for boys and some toys are for girls.

Pirañita: But toys are not for boys or for girls. They are for boys and girls.

---

Mamá: Pirañita, ¿quieres que tengamos un bebé?

Pirañita: No.

Mamá: ¿Por qué?

Pirañita: Porque quiero trillizos.

Mum: Pirañita, do you want us to have a baby?

Pirañita: No.

Mum: Why?

Pirañita: Because I want triplets.

Bolsa de tela con cremallera / Fabric bag with zip

Hoy traigo una costura rápida y sencilla.

Today I bring an easy and fast project.

We had a lunch party to celebrate the recent First Holy Communion of our friends' daughter. I wanted to give her a Bible (which is what I usually do for First Holy Communions) but I planned poorly and I found myself improvising something the night before.

I thought of a backpack but I didn't have cord, so I chose to make a little bag. It can be used for crayons, jewellery or little treasures.

Pirañita chose the fabrics, ribbon... I just had to sew her commands!

It is a very basic bag so I will not talk too much.

The outside fabric is a patchwork from a crafts store and the inside one from the flee market of my home town. The little pieces are from a random bag that I bought on the internet.

The beads and the buttons are from pound stores and the like. The "Handmade" pin too!

¡Y su dueña encantada!

And its new owner really liked it!

Con esta bolsa participo en Menuda Inspiración #8.
