Papá en casa / Daddy at home

It´s been a month since we arrived to Canada and I know that I have the blog a bit forgoten, but now I´m working lots of hour a day and if I have to choose between the girls or writing, you know what´s going to win.

Truth be told, it should be my husband writing this blog. He has become a houseband since we arrived and spends all day long with the girls, with excellent results for all the family.

Somos unos privilegiados.

This is a great experience for all of us. It´s hard on me to spend less time with my little ones and that made me question myself if could have been a mistake. However, my daughters get the best possible attention by the best posible care provider. And my husband is really enjoying it! Not all fathers have the chance of taking care of their kids 24/7 for a while. We are very lucky.

And something unexpected has happened: My huisband is homeschooling our daughters. We have bought a pre-reading program and he is teaching them a lesson on daily basis. They are short lessons and totally hands-on, the way we like them. They´re maybe a bit too directive for my taste, but he finds it handy to have a clear structure. But I have the advantage of having studied to be a teacher and he doesn´t.

I love to see my husband´s relationship with our daughters, how he tells me everything that they´ve done and realize how much they are enjoying each other. I am paying a high rate, but I think that it is being good for all of us.

I know that I have this almost forgoten, but emigrating is very stressfull.

Everything was very fast. We got the working permit on a Wensday and we were flying here the next Tuesday. We didn't have time for anything. Our home was just half-tidied when we left, with stuff for one or another here and there; and someone taking care of paying the person who was coming to clean the mess. Dissastrous!

The day that we flew, we didn´t have anywhere to sleep that night. We have tried to book 4 different holiday rentals unsuccessfully and hadn´t any news from the fifth one. When my sister called me in the moment of crossing the boarding gate, I asked her to book us a hotel room just in case.

When we arrived to the Antillas (where we changed flights=, my sister´s boyfriend had already booked a room for us. It was a bit expensive, but we had somewhere to sleep when arriving.

In Antillas, we had to go through all the check-in process again for our next flight and we found a very incompetent woman who wouldn´t allow us to check-in because our ticket was only one way. She made us wait until her boss checked that everything was in order with the Canadian Embassy.

In the second flight, we confronted the situation of mixing little children and turbulences. Whe you add an unavoidable need of going to the toilet and the prohibition of leaving your seat, there is only one possible end for the story.

Once in Toronto Airport, we discovered that our stroller wasn´t at the gate, because they had processed it with the luggage. Without the stroller, with 4 hand suitcases, the coats and a girl in the arms, we dragged ourselves to the luggage collection area where, of course, our stroller was nowhere to be found. In the end, it seems that someone took it and left it somewhere else.

Once we had everything, we went to the place where the suttle sent by my company should be. Obviously, it was not there, nobody new what company was I talking about and the public phone collected some coins before I could reach someone who actually knew what was I talking about.

We got to the hotel with two exhausted girls. It was already the night in Canada and far from midnight in Spain. And there they were the stairs. 3 flights of stairs to get to the elevator. Another one to get to the bedroom. 4 big suitcases, added to our handle luggage. And two girls who couldn´t stand it anymore.

Nos fuimos a la cama sin cenar. Para un día, ya parece bastante.

We went to bed without any dinner. It had been enough for a day.

Otro día más.

More for another day.

RUMS : MsMsM Aurora MRDM

Last Saturday, while my husband was taking care of some stuff with my daughters, I decided to finish my last sewing project before saying bye to my sewing machine. I might sew again sometime, but it makes no sense to take the sewing machine, nor the fabrics and sewing stuff either.

Some of that stuff will become part of an exchange that I'll talk you about another day. The sewing machine and everything else goes to my Mum, who won't use any of it at all.

And, finally, my Mi Rincon de Mariposas Aurora t-shirt.

The pattern is very simple and it is very fast to sew. I think that I spent more time choosing the fabrics and figuring out how to ser the neck that sewing the t-shirt.

I didn't cut sleeves, while I was thinking in the Spanish Summer.  Thankfully, the Summer is also hot in the Great Lakes area.

Pathcwork fabric for crafts from a dolar store, knitt fabric from a physic stoer and bias from the local
haberdashery.

El cuello me dio guerra.

The neck was a bit messy.

I first sewed the (non elastic) bias without pulling from any of the fabrics. It was tense and pointing up, not adapting to the body shape at all.

I hate to unstitch, so, thinking in cutting it, I went to the mirror and introduced the bias in the t-shirt to figure out how the cleavage was going to be. And there it was, an easy-peasy solution. I sewed the bias inside the t-shirt and that was it.

It's still a bit tense, but this way the bias can be seen, so I lie myself to convince me that it is perfect this way.

The only problem is that, being as white as I am, I think that this bright yellow doesn't fit me at all. Anyway, I like the t-shirt itself.

Go and check the other MRDM Auroras and La Pantiagana ones. Go also to visit this week's RUMS for extra inspiration. I'm giving you so much to do!

Expatriados a Canada / Expatriats in Canada

¡Nos vamos!

We are leaving!

Superpapa and I used to talk about this when we were dating: Moving abroad before our children began Elementary School so that they would learn another language and have an international experience.

We have had other opportunities before, always in Europe and following my husband's work. That's why it feels so weird: I am the one getting a job in North America.

It's a great opportunity for all the family. However, it's also scary. We leave everything we know and our comfort area and run for this adventure. How will our future be?

For now, it'll be dismantelling our house, preparing the lugage, travelling, searching for somewhere to live and starting a new life. Pray for us or wiss us luck (according to your beleifs). God will take care of us.

RUMS #19: CC.

I began to see La Lio Parda flowers in RUMS and, of course, they picked my eye.

So I had a look at her blog and began to imagine what uses I could give them: Decorate clothes, bags, hairpins... I even have an activity for the little ones in mind!

And here they are! Easy peasy. I love them!

The pictures are awful, but I had no battery on the camera and I made them with my cellphone.

The fabric is a patchwork that I bought for Christmas, felter for the backside and some buttons that I already had.

And now, let's have a look at all the stuff that has been shared in this RUMS!

Frases célebres: Conversaciones madre-hija / Famous quotes: Mother-daughter conversations

We had been some days in a little town and there were a couple of bouncing casttles that had picked the eyes of my little girls.

After two days explaining to Pirañita that Mama didn't have money to spend in bouncing casttles, we had this conversation (it was in English):

P: Mama, but I want to jump in the casttle!

M: I know, but it is vey expensive and Mama doesn't have the money to have the two of you jumping there as much as you would like.

P: I love the casttle. Mama, I love it. (Me encanta el castillo. Mamá, me encanta.)

M: I know, Darling. (Lo sé, Cariño.)

P: Mama, I love expensive stuff.

¡Estoy perdida!

She is only three and it is clear to her that she loves expensive stuff. It's the end!

Muchas gracias.

Before moving on, I want to thank all the mums who I have talked about this week, because all of them have accepted to it and given me permission to user her images. Many thanks.

There are so many mothers who inspire me, but the week only has 7 days and I have to leave something for the next year, don't you think?

Today is Mother's Day, at least here in Spain, so I'll be talking about the most inspiring mother that history has given us: Mary.

Mary has beer the woman and mother model for speakers, writers, artists and, of course, mothers, for not least than 2000 years. That is that!

She accepted a non-planned pregnancy, had a natural delivery, breastfed her child until natural wean, co-slept, made everything she could to keep her child safe, even go into exile; she supported him in all his projects, even when she didn't understand the details, and stood next to the cross, giving him her love and company until the end.

She trusted. She trusted God and she trusted herself, her instinct, capability and her son.

She is clearly an example, no matter ones beliefs.
