Pantsaurus o cómo hablar con nuestros hijos para prevenir el abuso sexual

El otro día, oía a una de mis hijas cantar la canción del Pantsaurus y mi otra hija se le unió.

The other day, I heard one of my daughters signing the Pantsaurus song and my other daughter decided to sing along. 

Yo ya había oído hablar del PANTS, un programa de NSPCC para ayudar a los niños a protegerse del abuso sexual.

I had already heard about  the PANTS, a NSPCC program to help children to stay safe from sexual abuse.

Confieso que no sé si realmente, en una situación de abuso, haber cantado o no una cancioncilla tendrá más o menos impacto, pero creo firmemente que hablar con nuestros hijos de qué es apropiado y qué no lo es es necesario.

I must confess that I don´t know how effective will it be to have sang a song when confronted with a sexual abuse situation. However, I am a strong beliver in talking things through with our kids and explain them what is appropriate and what is not. 

El colegio de mis hijas trabaja las siglas PANTS con los alumnos.

At my daughters' school, they work with the PANTS accronym. 

P - Privates are private. / Las partes privadas son privadas.
A - Always remember your body belongs to you. / Recuerda SIEMPRE que tu cuerpo te pertenece a ti.
N - No means no. / No significa no.
T - Talk about secrets that upset you. / Habla de los secretos que te incomodan.
S - Speak up, someone can help. / Cuéntalo, alguien puede ayudar.

Mis hijas repiten de vez en cuando algunas de estas frases, sobre todo cuando les hablamos de consentimiento. Creo que es fundamental que sean ellas quienes decidan quién, cómo y cuándo las toca.

My children repeat once and again some of those phrases, especially when we talk about consent. I think that it is a must for them to know that they have the last word about who, when and how they are touched. 

En ese sentido, hemos tenido algunas discusiones desagradables con familiares que no aceptan el no y que, o fuerzan un abrazo o un beso indeseado, o hacen chantaje emocional a las niñas para conseguir lo que quieren.

In that sense, we have had some unpleasant conversations with some relatives who are unnable to accept a no, forcing kisses and hugs upon the children agains their will. Other times, it has been emotional harassment in order to get the hug or kiss that they want. 

Por suerte, nuestras hijas tienen claro que eso es inadmisible, no ceden al chantaje y, cuando les han forzado, hablan con nosotros sobre el abuso que han sufrido (porque, aunque no tenga connotaciones sexuales, es un abuso de poder de un adulto sobre un niño).

Luckily, our children understand that it is not acceptable to impose physical contact, they reject emotional harassment and, if they have been hugged or kissed agains their will, they have spoken up about the abuse (because it might not be sexual but it is still an abusive situation in which an adult is imposing personal preferences over the child´s will).

Me alegra que no se cayen, que digan claramente no y que no se dejen chantajear.

I am happy that they won´t stay quiet, that they are able to say no and that they don´t accept emotional harassment. 

Espero que no tengan que enfrentarse a una situación de abuso ni ahora ni nunca, pero espero que, si algo pasara, tengan las herramientas necesarias para poner límites y, si alguien se les impone por la fuerza, para hablar de ello y recibir el apoyo que necesiten.

I do hope that they will never have to confront an abusive situation now or never. Said that, if it would be to happen, I want to provide them with the tools to set boundaries and, if they are physically forced, to talk about it and get the support that they might need.

Me encanta cuando mis hijas me dicen eso, con más frecuencia la mayor que la pequeña.

I love when my kids tell me that phrase, more often the oldest one than the youngest.

"¡Mamá, eres la mejor!"

"Mum, you are the best!"

Puede ser porque he preparado algo que le gusta para cenar, porque he comprado algo que le gusta y no espera, porque tengo un plan divertido escondido debajo de la manga... Y entonces llegan esas palabras, con frecuencia acompañadas de un abrazo.

It might be that I have prepared something that she likes for dinner, that I have bought something that she likes but doesn´t expect, it might be a fun activity that I have prepared without telling her... And then is when those glorious words come to life, often in addition to a big hug.

Cesta de ovillos / Knitting basket

Esta cesta la empecé allá por octubre de 2015, en unas vacaciones en España. Creo que la terminé allá por noviembre o diciembre de 2017.

I started to work on this basket in October 2015, during some holidays in Spain. I think that I finished it in November or December 2017. 

Tejí, destejí, retejí...

I crocheted, un-crocheted, re-crocheted...

Era mi primer proyecto de ganchillo con trapillo y tenía una idea clara de lo que quería.

It was my first project crotcheting with t-shirt yarn and I had a clear idea of what I wanted.

Está hecho a base de círculos cerrados, extensión, otro círculo, extensión... Así a ojo hasta que tuve un diámetro de base que me convenció. Luego seguí haciendo lo mismo, pero sin hacer incrementos en el número de puntos por vuelta.

It is made of circles that close in each round. Then increase, another circle, increase... All the way until I had a circle in a diameter that looked right. Afterwards, I kept with my circles closing every round but without increasing the number of stitches per round.

Conforme iba añadiendo vueltas, me iban dando brotes de creatividad, así que fui haciendo distintos patrones con distintos puntos de ganchillo. Todo muy simplón, pero así al menos lo encontraba más entretenido.

While I was increasing the number of rounds, I was got creative with the stitches and the patterns. It is quite simple but it was quite entertaining.

Pensé que molaría que se vieran las lanas desde fuera, así que hice unas ventanitas. El problema es que eso hace que el trapillo se estire con la presión y la cesta coge esta forma tan raruna. Si la volviera a hacer, creo que intentaría evitar ese efecto, que no acaba de convencerme. El caso es que ya había descosido tantas veces que decidí que ya sólo quedaba huir hacia delante y terminar.

I thought that it would look good to be able to see the yarns from the ouside so I ceated some "windows". The problem is that the presure makes the t-shirt yarn to stretch and the basket gets this very weird shape. Would I crochet it again, I would avoid this altogether. The thing is that I had uncrocheted so many times before that I decided to keep pushing forward to finish it.

Iba a hacer sólo una vuelta en el trapillo gris, pero se me ocurrió que igual molaría intentar añadirle unas asas y ver cómo quedaba. Me gusta la idea de poder mover la cesta por ahí, así que las dejé.

I was plannig only one round on the grey yarn but I thought that I could try to add some handles and see how they looked. I loved the idea of carring the basket around so there they are.

Tiene un cordón interior para cerrar, pero no le hice una foto en la que se vea. Lo siento.

It has a cord to close it but I didn't get to take a picture where it is visible. Sorry.

Bolsas para botella - Bottle carrier bags

Hoy os traigo la última y la primera de mis costuras. La última con mi vieja máquina de Ikea y la primera con mi nueva Singer.

Today, I am shewing you my last and my first sewing projects. The last one with my old IKEA sewing machine and the first one with my new Singer.

Se trata de unos regalos de cumpleaños para unos amigos de mis hijas que son gemelos: Unas bolsas para llevar la botella de agua al cole (ya os conté aquí que al cole de mis hijas hay que pasear una botella de agua todos los días).

They are the birthday gifts for two friends of my daughters who happen to be twins. They are two bags for the water bottles (I already explained you here that in my daughters' school you are expected to walk a water bottle around).

La amarilla es la que he hice con la máquina de Ikea y la morada la que ha estrenado mi nueva máquina. En ambas usé la overlock para las costuras interiores, aunque sólo por vicio.

The yellow bag was made with the IKEA sewing machine and the purple one with the Singer. I used the overlock for the interior seams for the sake of it.

La verdad es que la amarilla llevaba meses hecha y no estaba nada contenta con tener la otra sin terminar, pero la máquina me empezó a dar problemas y, cuando no coses a gusto, acabas no cosiendo. Ésa es la razón por la que, al final, me he lanzado a cambiar de máquina. ¡Y qué cambio!

Truth be told, the yellow bag has been ready for months and I was not too happy having this unfinished project. However, the old machine began to be a pain and it doesn't make any sense to sew if you don't enjoy it. That is why I decided to buy the new sewing machine. Totally worth it!

Poncho de buenas noches / Good Night Poncho

 Hace siglos que no hago una entrada y me alegra volver para un día de Menuda Inspiración.

It has been a long while since my last post and I am happy to be back for the Menuda Inspiración linking party. 

Éste poncho lo hice poco después del Sewing Camp de 2016 con un retal de tela que alguien había dejado por allí.

I sewed this poncho righ after the Sewing Camp 2016 with a piece of fabric that someone left there to be re-homed. 

En casa no usamos batas, no tenemos costumbre. Usamos ponchos, que tienen ese puntillo de manta que los hace tan amorosos en invierno. 

We don´t use dressing gowns at home, it is not something we are used to. We use ponchos instead. They feel like a blanket, very cozy for the winter.


Tenía pendiente hacerles unos a las peques y las dos se enamoraron de este retal. El problema es que era muy largo, pero muy estrechito, así que fue para la pequeña (las fotos son de ayer mismo, así que el año pasado cuando se lo hice le quedaba más grandecito).

I had a pending project to make some ponchos for the kids and my two girls fell in love with this fabric. The problem was that it was a very long and narrow piece, which means that it ended up being for the youngest one (the pictures are from yesterday and hence it looked bigger last year).

Como digo, el retal era alargado y estrecho, así que lo corté en cuatro triángulos rectángulos, dibujé la forma del cuello en la arista corta, dos snaps para cerrar y lo hice en un plis-plas.

As I said, the piece of fabric was quite long and narrow, so I cut four right angles, drew the neck on the sortest side and used two snaps to close it. It took me no time to have it ready to wear.


Es también mi primer proyecto con la overlock Singer que me compré justo después del Sewing Camp, así que aproveché los hilos que gané en el sorteo, que no pegan nada de color, pero eran los que tenía...

It was also my first project with the Singer overlock that I bought right after the Sewing Camp, so I used the threads that I won in a raffle there. 

Y así de feliz sigue Cachorrito con su poncho de buenas noches.

Nuevos propósitos

Hola abandonadas lectoras de éste, mi humilde blog. 

Hello abandoned readers of this blog of mine. 

Llevo tiempo pensando en qué hacer con esto. No es que no tenga cosas que contar o que escribir, es que no tengo tiempo. Desde que nos cambiamos de casa y las dos van al cole, no sé dónde se me queda el tiempo, pero no me cuende una mierda nada de nada. 

I have been thinking what to do with this blog for a while. It is not that I have nothing to tell or write. I just don't have time. Since we moved to the new house and both girls started school, I don't know where is my time going but I have time for nothing. 

Hemos empezado el curso llenas de buenos propósitos, como llegar a tiempo al cole para que asuntos sociales no vuelva a darme un toque porque una niña llego tarde 5 veces el año pasado y la otra 14 (y sí, sigo preguntándome cómo nadie encuentra extraño que, llegando al cole a la misma hora, una tenga 3 veces más retrasos que la otra. Para eso parece que no da la neurona, pero bueno, no íbamos a eso). 

We started school full of good intentios, like getting to school in time before social services tells me off again because one girl was late 5 times last year and the other one 14 (yeah, I am still asking myself why nobody thinks that it is weird that one arrived late 3 times the number of days that the other one did when they arrive to school at the same time. It seems that there were no neurons left to consider that. Anyway, that is not whas this is about).

Volviendo a los buenos propósitos: Llegar al cole a tiempo, comer nuestras 5 porciones de fruta y verdura diarias, tomar 2 raciones de lácteos, mantener un estilo de vida activo (deporte o parque al menos una hora después del cole), no hacer los deberes del cole (sí, he dicho NO), hacer los deberes de español (estos sí vamos a hacerlos... de momento), hacer una hora de francés a la semana, practicar nuestro instrumento al menos 4 veces por semana, hacer algo de programación (esto aún ni lo hemos tocado), hacer algo de catequesis en familia (tengo una sesión preparada cogiendo polvo desde la semana pasada), ir a la piscina cada dos semanas como mínimo, poner la mesa y dejar nuestro plato en el friegaplatos después, acostarnos a una hora decente... Vamos, que de buenos propósitos está el mundo lleno. Ya veremos lo que duran. 

Going back to our good intentios: Arriving in time to school, eat our 5 a days, have 2 portions of diary a day, have an active lifestyle (sports or park at least one hour after school), not doing the school homework (yes, I said NO), doing the Spanish homework (yes, we will do that one... for the time being), have an hour of French a week, practice our instruments at least 4 times a week, do some programming (not even touched it yet), do some family cathequism (I have a session ready since last week that is standing there), go to the swimmingpool at least every other week,  set the table and leave our plate in the dishwasher after eating, go to bed at a decent time... Seriously, all good intentions. Let's see how long they long.

Por mi parte, mis propósitos van más en la línea de sobrevivir a lo que vaya viniendo e intentar recuperar la rodilla que me operaron en abril y que me sigue dando guerra. ¡Y mandar su premio a Dibujos de Nube! (terminé de hacerlo en mayo y ahí está, pendiente de que lo lleve a correos). 

On my side, my personal intentions are in the line of surviving to whatever comes and try to recover the knee on which I had surgery in April, which is not doing so well. And send Dibujos de Nube her price! (I finished it in May and there it is, waiting to be taken to the post office). 

Algo que tengo que decidir es qué hago con este blog.

Something that I should do is to decide what to do with this blog.

Frases célebres de Cachorrito: De flores y coches

Pirañita estaba enferma en casa y Cachorrito y yo decidimos comprarle unas flores (que estaban de oferta por destocaje del Día de la Madre) y, mientras íbamos para casa, Cachorrito me dice:

Mamá,  Le damos flores porque son símbolos de amor, como corazones. ¿Verdad? Las flores son como corazones. Y rojo es el color del amor. Por eso he elegido las oscuras (no había rojas).

Pirañita was sich and Cachorrito and I decided to buy her some flowers (which were on discount sale ofter Mother's Day). On our way home, Cachorrito tells me:

Mama, we giver flowers because they are signs of love, like hearts. Am I right? Flowers are like hearts. And red is the colour of love. That is why I chose the dark ones (no había rosas rojas).

Siento el retraso de ayer. Tuve algunos problemas con la configuración del linking party y me dieron las tantas intentando hacerlo funcionar. Al final ya visteis que utilicé un sistema distinto del que he utilizado otras veces.

I am sorry for the delays. I had some problems with the links yesterday and it took far too much to make it work. In the end, I am using a different system than I have in the past for the links.

Bolas de Navidad / Christmas baubles

Edad: A partir de 18 meses  / Age: From 18 months old

Material:
 - Bolas de poliespán / Crafts balls
- Pegatinas / Stickers
- Purpurina  / Glitter

Instrucciones / Instructions:
Dejad todo el material a los niños y dejarles crear. No necesitan instrucciones.

Give all the material to the kids and let them create. They don´t need instructions.

 

 

 

Copos de nieve para las ventanas / Window snowflakes

Edad: A partir de 18 meses / Age: From 18 months old

Material:
- Papel / Paper
- Tijeras / Scissors
- Nieve en espray / Snow spray

Instrucciones / Instructions:
1. Doblamos el papel por la mitad dos veces y luego hacemos un triángulo. / We fold the paper in half twice and then we make a triangle. 
2. Cortamos las formas que queramos. / Cut the paper as you please. 
3. Abre el papel y ponlo sobre la ventana. / Open de paper and put it over the window.
4. Aplicamos el espray y esperamos a que seque para retirar el papel. / Apply the spray and wait until it is dry to remove the paper.

 

 

 

Guirnalda de Navidad / Christmas garland

Edad: A partir de 2 años / Age: From 2 years old


Material:
- Plato de papel dorado / Golden paper plate
- Pegatinas / Stickers

El sorteo es sólo para territorio de la Unión Europea (en caso de no vivir en la Unión Europea, se podrá participar siempre que se abonen los gastos de envío, de haberlos). El sorteo se realizará de forma doméstica y será una de mis hijas quien saque el número premiado. As I said in this post, there will be a raffle among all the post from the Advent Calendar linking party and this one. The raffle will be done at my home and one of my daughters will take the paper with the winning number. Christmas is coming: Recopilatorio de calendarios de Adviento / Advent Calenddar linking party

Como prometí, aquí tenéis nuestro calendario de este año.

Here you are our Advent Calendar for this year, as promissed.

Como podéis observar, hemos reciclado el formato del año que viene, aunque este año he decidido jugar con sobres de distintos tamaños. Me planteé colgar algo de pared a pared, pero entonces no podía llevar los regalitos dentro, porque pensaban demasiado. Al final, vuelta a lo conocido.

As you can see, we have recycled last year's format. However, this year I chose to use envelopes in different sizes. I wanted to hang it between two walls but it was too heavy and I wanted to keep the gifts inside. 

Aquí tenéis una foto con todo lo que he puesto para cada día. Todos los días tenemos una actividad y sólo los domingos tenemos unas bolitas de chocolate.

This is a picture with the things that I have included for each day. Everyday there is an activity and there are only chocolate balls on Sundays.

Calendario de adviento 2015 / Advent calendar 2015

Christmas is coming y, como prometí ayer, hoy os enseño nuestro calendario de adviento del año pasado.

Christmas is coming and, as I promissed yesterday, today I am sharing our Advent Calendar from last year.

Utilicé una caja de madera de esas que se usan para envolver cestas de Navidad y teníamos un sobre por día, además de un maravilloso calendario de adviento con una oración para cada día que nos dieron en la parroquia.

I used one of those crates to wrap gifts for Christmas. We had one envelope per day. On top of that, we used an Advent Calendar with prayers that we received in the church. 

Aquí tenéis una imagen con algunas de las cosas que metimos dentro. Algunas de la actividades estarán en el recopilatorio de mañana.

This picture shows some of the things that were in the envelopes. Some of the activities that we did last year will be in tomorrow's post. 

Nuestra dinámica es muy sencilla. Primero encendemos las velas que toquen en nuestra corona de adviento (ésta la hice yo en un momentín con un poco de papel y material de manualidades que teníamos por casa), después hacemos una pequeña oración, leemos algún cuento de Navidad (especialmente nuestras Biblias infantiles) y luego abrimos el sobre.

Our routine is very easy. We start lighting a candle from our Advent Crown (I made this one easily and fast with some craft supplies that I had at home), then we pray together, we read a Christmas story (we use our children Bibles preferably) and then we open the envelope.

Cada sobre contiene una actividad y algún dulce, cada día distintos.

Each envelope has an activity and a treat, different each day.

Se acerca la Navidad y este mismo domingo comienza el Adviento, esos 4 domingos antes del día de Navidad en el que nos preparamos para recibir al Hijo de Dios.

Christmas is coming and the Advent starts this Sunday, the first of those 4 Sundays in which we get ready to receive the Son of the God.

Cada vez más gente se suma a hacer calendarios de adviento que vayan más allá de la típica caja de chocolatinas del súper. ¡Y la de inspiración que se necesita para hacerlo!

More and more people are making Advent calendars that go beyond the typical chocolate box from the supermarket. How much inspiration that requires! 

Por eso, vamos a organizar una fiesta de inspiración para que nadie se quede con las ganas a falta de ideas. Christmas is coming!

That is why we are going to organise an inspiration party so that nobody runs out of ideas. Christmas is coming!

Calendario de Adviento / Advent Calendar 2014

Mañana os enseñaré el que hicimos el año pasado, el de 2015, que no llegué a publicar.

I will show you the one we had last year, 2015, and that I never published before. 

Y, el domingo, os enseñaré el de este año, en el que me encuentro trabajando en estos momentos. Para ir abriendo boca, aquí tenéis algunas de las cosas que he comprado hoy en bazares, tiendas de manualidades y similar para tener algo chulo que hacer cada día.

And, on Sunday, I will show you the one for this year, in which I am already working. Just to give you a heads up, these are some of the things that I just bought today in pound stores, craft stores and the like in order to have a cool activity for every day. 

Además, en el post del domingo, estará el link para que vayáis añadiendo vuestros calendarios de adviento.

 On top of that, in the Sunday, post you will find a link so that you can add your own Advent Calendars.

El lunes, será el día de las actividades de navidad. Publicaré una entrada con algunas de las actividades que hemos hecho en el pasado y vosotras podréis añadir todas las actividades que queráis, tanto de este año, como de años pasados.

On Monday, it will be the Christmas activities day.  I will publish a post with some Christmas activities that we have done in the past and you will have a link to share those ones from this year and previous years.

Braga del bikini Biarritz / Biarritz bikini bottoms

 Una de las cosas que nos pidieron que llevaramos al Sewing Camp era patrón y material para coser unas bragas. Tenían pendiente coser las del bikini Biarritz, que tenía pendiendo coser del Cose Conmigo de La Pantigana, y vi mi oportunidad.

One of the things that we were required to take to the Sewing Camp was a pattern and the material to sew underpants. I had the Biarritz bikini bottoms pending to sew for the La Pantigana Sew Along and I thought that it was my chance. 

Me llevé la misma tela que usé para el gorro de piscina de Pirañita. Me gusta mucho esa tela. Tiene un tacto muy suave y el estampado es muy chulo.

I took the same fabric that I used for Pirañita's swimming hat. I love that fabric. It is very soft and the pattern is brilliant. 

Alguien me advirtió que igual querría ampliar un poco la entrepierna si me gustan las bragas más bien anchas por esa parte. Añadí un centímetro por cada lado. Es demasiaro para una braga, pero hacen un culotte perfecto. ¡Ya tengo parte de abajo para el pijama de verano! 

Someone warned me that it was quite narrow in between the legs and that I might want to make that part wider I added 1 cm on each side. It was too much for calling them panties but perfect for a culotte. I now have the bottoms for my summer pyjamas!

En lugar de goma, aproveché para probar con caucho, del que escuché opiniones encontradas en el Sewing Camp, algunas lo odian y otras lo aman. Yo tendré que darle algo más de uso a la braga para tener una opinión al respecto.

Instead of the typical elastic, I tried with rubber. I found divergent positions about the rubber in the Sewing Camp, with some people loving it and others hating it. I will have to use my culotte a bit more to develop an opinion.  

También aproveché para probar la remalladora. Naii me hizo el favor de ayudarme, porque se me estaba atascando todo el rato.

I also took the opportunity to try the serger. Naii was so kind as to help me because the thread was getting stuck all the time. 

Al final, terminé con puntada en zig-zag en la máquina plana porque empezaban a ser demasiadas capas de tela para que la remalladora tirara bien (al menos con mi nivel de inexperiencia). 

In the end, I finished with a zig-zag beam with the sewing machine because it was getting to the point in which there were too many layers of fabric for the serger (at least with my level of experience).

Tengo que probar a añadir sólo medio centímetro por cada lado en la entrepierna, a ver qué tal queda para braguas. Tengo por ahí unas telas de tacto similar que me lo están pidiendo a gritos.

I should try to add only half a centimetre on each side of the middle piece to try to get some proper underpants I have some very nice fabrics with a similar touch that would love to find their way to my drawer.
